1Overview
ADACGenerate assigns an effective Standard or Supplementary definition to compatible geometry. In DCAD, a native Source Box captures one or more exact model/element UIDs before the filtered catalogue opens. The New Object setting then either creates a separate native asset from each source or applies the definition to the selected object itself.
A design already contains the correct physical geometry and should become or produce an ADAC asset without redrawing it.
2Create from or attribute existing geometry
Use clean source geometry; DCAD gathers it in the Source Box before the desktop form, while ACAD/BCAD can use preselection.
Select the source geometry
Geometry is inspected before the catalogue is filtered.
- ACAD/BCAD: preselect source objects or select them when
ADACGenerateprompts. - DCAD: start
ADACGenerate, select Pick in the Source Box, accept one or more objects, return to the Source Box and select Continue. - In DCAD, Single or Multi starts from Settings and can be changed in the Source Box. Existing ADAC geometry may be selected when it needs to be reclassified.
Choose a compatible definition
Only definitions matching the accepted geometry are shown.
- Review the filtered Standard and Supplementary catalogues.
- Choose the asset definition that represents the selected feature.
- If the intended definition is absent, cancel and correct either the source geometry or the profile definition.
Complete attributes and generate
The selected mode controls whether source geometry is copied or changed.
- Confirm the generated ADACId/ObjectId and starting values.
- Review global and asset prefills.
- Complete required fields and supporting files.
- DCAD New Object checked: save to create a separate native asset with the chosen profile model/name/colour while leaving the source untouched.
- DCAD New Object cleared: confirm any existing ADAC-data replacement warning, then save to attribute the selected object in place.
3Geometry filtering and generation
Generate shares the same effective asset map used by profile customisation, import appearance and audit.
| Feature or choice | Current behaviour |
|---|---|
| Effective definitions | Base and user override JSON are merged before geometry filtering. The same customised definitions used by creation are offered. |
| Geometry filter | Accepted and rejected assets are calculated from selected CAD/12d geometry.Users do not have to guess which types are compatible. |
| DCAD Source Box | The persisted Multi-Select Default chooses the initial Single or Multi mode. Continue validates the Source Box and keeps it open when no object was accepted.Every accepted element is transferred by exact model and element UID before the desktop definition list opens. |
| Property blocks | ACAD/BCAD single selections may prompt for a generated block; multiple selections skip block insertion.DCAD stores data on native 12d elements and does not create DWG property blocks. |
| DCAD New Object mode | The checked default duplicates live source geometry into the selected asset's native destination model, applies the profile naming and appearance convention and assigns collision-free ADACId/ObjectId values. Source objects remain unchanged.Clear New Object to convert the exact selected UID in place; Generate requires confirmation before replacing an existing ADAC payload. |
| DCAD attribute completion | DCAD writes the selected definition, validated geometry and supported appearance fields to every created or in-place target. Grouped definitions share one logical ADACId across their native geometry parts.Run Edit and Audit to complete project-specific required values that cannot be inferred from geometry. |
4Before you begin
- Clean or simplify source geometry and move it to model space.
- Load the intended profile and review accepted geometry in the Asset Library.
- Set reusable global and asset-specific prefills.
- DCAD: choose the intended New Object mode in Settings before starting Generate.
5Product differences
The task is shared where possible, but selection, interface integration and model operations follow the host shown below.
Uses AutoCAD implied/prompted selection and filters database entity geometry.
Uses the equivalent BricsCAD selection and geometry adapters.
ADACGenerate first opens a native Single/Multi Source Box. Select Pick, accept one or more objects, return to the panel and select Continue. DCAD filters both catalogues from live geometry. With Settings > New Object checked it creates verified native assets in the profile model with import-compatible naming, colour and unique ADACId/ObjectId values while leaving sources untouched; when cleared it attributes the exact source UIDs and confirms before replacing existing ADAC data.
6Troubleshooting
No applicable assets are found
Check the source object type and the definition's accepted Geometry. Simplify unsupported curves or correct open/closed state.
DCAD selection ends without geometry
In the Generate Source Box select Pick, accept the intended native object or objects, return to the panel and select Continue. An empty Source Box remains open; cancelling ends the command without applying asset data.
Generate warns that ADAC data will be replaced
New Object is cleared and at least one selected source already contains native ADAC or infrADAC data. Choose No to leave it unchanged, or explicitly confirm only when in-place reclassification is intended.
The wrong assets appear after a profile edit
Reload the profile, reopen the command and verify the user override geometry in the Asset Library.
