1Overview
Use this guide to refresh a renewed computer licence, replace a local licence.dat, renew or return a floating checkout or confirm a network-client seat. The current workflow starts with ADACLicence and adapts to the licence mode configured during installation.
For a Computer Licence, download the latest signed licence from the server unless support has supplied a replacement licence.dat.
2Before updating
- Save work in the current CAD host.
- Confirm the computer has internet access for server download, floating checkout/return or network-seat validation.
- If using a local file, obtain the updated
licence.datfrom infrADAC support or your licence administrator. - Do not select the currently installed licence file as the replacement.
A licence update keeps the activation on this device and refreshes its local entitlement. Uninstall Licence recalls the activation and removes the active local licence file.
3Update the licence
Open Licence Status
Start the mode-aware licence workflow.
- Open the infrADAC interface.
- Select Licence or run
ADACLicence. - For a Computer Licence, review the holder and expiry shown under Licence Status.
Choose the action for the licence type
The available controls depend on the configured mode.
- Computer Licence: choose to update, then select Download or Browse.
- Floating Licence: select Checkout/Renew, Return or Cancel.
- Floating Network Client: infrADAC requests a seat from the configured network server when commands start.
If the server reports that a Computer Licence expiry changed, infrADAC can require the updated file at startup or before update access is granted.
Download or select the replacement
Complete the action chosen in the previous step.
Download from server
Select Download. infrADAC retrieves the current licence for this installation, validates it and replaces the local file.
Browse for a local file
Select Browse, choose the new licence.dat and confirm. The file is checked before it is saved to the standard location.
The local-file workflow rejects the installed path and a file that is effectively identical to the current licence. When resolving an expiry lockout, the replacement must contain the updated expiry.
Wait for validation
The replacement must pass local and, where applicable, server checks.
- The signed licence content is validated.
- The licence is checked for the configured infrADAC product and this installation.
- Expiry and mode rules are applied.
- A valid replacement clears an expiry lockout.
Confirm access
Verify the new state before returning to work.
- Run
ADACLicenceagain. - Confirm the holder, expiry or floating-seat status is correct.
- Run a normal infrADAC command.
- If the host was locked out, close and reopen it if the command gate does not clear immediately.
The current licence mode has validated and infrADAC commands are available.
4Licence-type behaviour
Computer Licence
The signed licence.dat is installed for this computer. Use Download to refresh it from the server or Browse to install a supplied replacement.
Floating Licence
Checkout/Renew obtains or renews a signed offline checkout for the configured number of days. Return releases the checkout and removes the local floating checkout file. Reconnect before the offline checkout expires.
Floating Network Client
The client requests a seat from the configured infrADAC Network Licence Server and maintains it while the host is running. If the server cannot be reached, a configured grace period may apply. Server host, port or authentication changes are installation configuration changes rather than a licence.dat replacement.
5Automatic renewal prompts
infrADAC compares an eligible Computer Licence with the server during startup and update authorisation. If the server reports that the expiry changed, the prompt shows the current licence summary and asks whether to download the replacement.
- Select Download to replace and revalidate the local file.
- Selecting Cancel can leave infrADAC locked until the renewed licence is installed.
- If the first server request fails for ordinary network reasons, startup uses the valid local licence where current rules allow it.
An unchanged or older-expiry file cannot clear a server-required renewal.
6Troubleshooting
The server download failed
Confirm internet access and retry. If the server update remains unavailable, use Browse only when support has supplied a current licence.dat.
The selected file is the same as the installed licence
Select the newly issued file rather than the copy already stored in the infrADAC Licence folder. A renamed copy of the same contents is still rejected.
The replacement does not contain the updated expiry
The selected file is older than the renewal expected by the server. Download again or request a new file from support.
A floating checkout cannot be renewed or returned
Reconnect to the internet, run ADACLicence and retry the action. If another device holds the seat, return it there or contact support.
A network seat is unavailable
Confirm the network licence server is running and reachable, then check whether all seats are already in use. Do not publish or share the local server authentication token.
