1Overview
The Asset Library is more than a catalogue. With a loaded editable profile it can add or clone definitions, create user overrides for Standard assets, edit Supplementary assets and open shared requirement and threshold tools. ACAD and BCAD also expose DWG drawing-configuration controls. DCAD labels the shared Layer value as Model, hides ByLayer and Drawing Config Details, and leaves colour, line style and symbol display to native 12d controls.
Reviewing available assets, changing profile requirements, adding a Supplementary type or tuning supported geometry and clone behaviour.
2Editable library layers
Base definitions, user standard overrides and supplementary definitions have different protection rules.
| Feature or choice | Current behaviour |
|---|---|
| Effective overlay | UserDefaultAssets and UserSupplementaryAssets are overlaid on base profile JSON before display and generation.Customisation does not require modifying shipped resources. |
| Geometry intent | Definitions can accept one or more geometry codes, including grouped variants.Generate and audit use the same compatibility intent. |
| Product appearance | ACAD/BCAD definitions can configure supported layer, colour, linetype and block behaviour. DCAD exposes the shared Layer value as Model but omits ByLayer, DWG blocks and Drawing Config Details.DCAD appearance outside the saved Model value remains controlled by native 12d colour, line-style and symbol tools. |
| Shared tools | Required-status editors, profile extent limits and clone thresholds are available only with an editable loaded profile.Project-wide rules stay with the receiver package. |
3Asset Library actions
Move through the current library task one stage at a time; every visual stage carries its own image.
Browse the effective library
Search by class or name.
- Run
ADACLibrary. - Switch between Standard and Supplementary lists.
- Use Search, Class/Name tabs and Show Hidden to locate the definition.
- Review alias, class, geometry and attributes; ACAD/BCAD can also review DWG drawing details.
Edit a definition
Standard definitions are overridden; supplementary definitions are maintained in user profile data.
- Choose Edit Asset.
- Update editable alias, class, accepted geometry and required attribute flags.
- ACAD/BCAD: configure supported layer, colour, linetype or block details separately.
- DCAD: use the Model field for the shared Layer/model value. Drawing Config Details and ByLayer colour are hidden; adjust colour, line style and symbol with native 12d controls.
- Save the asset.
Add, clone or remove
Use profile-safe controls.
- Choose Add Asset to create a user asset definition.
- Clone a suitable definition when most configuration should be retained.
- Delete only user/supplementary assets; embedded standard assets cannot be deleted.
- Use reset behaviour for a standard user override when the base definition should return.
Edit shared profile rules
Use the icon tools at the bottom of the library.
- Edit Global or Project required status.
- Set drawing extent limits for the profile.
- Set the ADACClone level-prefill threshold in metres.
- Save/export the profile and rerun audit.
4Before you begin
- Load an editable profile; embedded Base Schema mode limits editing.
- Export a backup of the profile.
- Understand the receiver schema before changing required status or geometry.
5Product differences
The task is shared where possible, but selection, interface integration and model operations follow the host shown below.
The library can inspect AutoCAD layers and use drawing selection for layer pick controls.
BCAD exposes the same editor against BricsCAD layers and profile JSON.
The desktop Asset Library can review Standard and Supplementary definitions and edit attribute, required-status and geometry rules. The shared Layer value is labelled Model; AutoCAD ByLayer and Drawing Config Details are hidden, while native 12d tools control colour, line style and symbol display.
6Troubleshooting
Editing controls are missing or disabled
Load an IDC profile instead of embedded Base Schema. Some controls deliberately require a writable loaded profile.
A standard asset cannot be deleted
Create a user override, hide it if supported, or reset the override. Shipped standard definitions are protected.
A changed geometry causes audit failures
Reopen the asset definition, compare it with the receiver schema and existing model geometry, then correct the definition or regenerate/remap affected assets.
