1Overview
ACAD and BCAD support point placement and compatible target-geometry modes. DCAD collects one native source through a pre-launch output-window pick, then accepts repeated Plan X/Y placement points. Each duplicate is translated in plan while every source vertex keeps its original Z; DCAD does not clone onto target geometry.
Creating repeated similar assets or, in ACAD/BCAD, transferring an asset definition to compatible existing target geometry.
2Clone with the supported placement mode
Choose your product to see only the selection and placement sequence it uses.
Select the source or target workflow
Preselection determines how ADACClone starts.
- For point placement, preselect one valid infrADAC asset or run
ADACCloneand select the source when prompted. - For target-geometry mode, preselect one or more target objects, run
ADACClone, then select the source asset when prompted. - Annotation and Dimension assets are rejected as clone sources.
Create the clones
Place copies at points or apply the source definition to compatible target geometry.
- Point placement: pick each insertion point, then press Enter to finish.
- Target-geometry mode: allow infrADAC to process the preselected objects; incompatible targets are skipped rather than altered.
- Wait for the final result dialog before starting another model command.
Review the clone result
Use the completion dialog to check what was created.
- Review the assigned identities, skipped-target count and any level-prefill exclusions.
- Choose Highlight when the result offers it for clones whose managed levels need attention.
- Run Audit after the complete cloning task, before export or delivery.

Select the native source
DCAD obtains one exact 12d element before the desktop clone operation starts.
- Start
ADACClonefrom the infrADAC 12d toolbar. - Complete the output-window pick for one native source element carrying infrADAC identity.
- Do not select an Annotation or Dimension; DCAD does not offer a target-geometry mode.
Pick the Plan placements
The 12d placement panel accepts repeated X/Y positions.
- Pick the first Plan placement point.
- Continue picking positions for each required copy; the picked Z is ignored and every source vertex keeps its original Z.
- Select Finish after at least one point has been accepted.
Confirm the native clones
DCAD reports the completed placements after updating identity and supported calculated fields.
- Review the number of native elements created and any failed placement reported by the macro or desktop host.
- Confirm each clone has a new ADAC identity and the intended model location.
- Run Audit once after all placements are complete.
3Clone identity, geometry and levels
Every host preserves source identity rules while using its own safe geometry operation.
| Feature or choice | Current behaviour |
|---|---|
| Identity allocation | Increments a compatible existing identity, otherwise uses asset alias numbering or an available eight-digit value.Clones do not inherit a duplicate ADACId. |
| Target geometry | ACAD/BCAD require structurally compatible targets. DCAD does not offer target-geometry mode.Shape transfer is never implied where the host cannot perform it. |
| Calculated values | ACAD/BCAD can use nearby matching assets and profile thresholds. DCAD recalculates supported fields from each placed clone's live geometry and never derives upstream/downstream surface levels from pipe invert geometry.Plan translation preserves source elevations while keeping applicable length, area, elevation, invert and grade values current. |
| Restrictions | Annotation and Dimension assets are rejected and incompatible targets are skipped.Enhancements keep their specialised creation semantics. |
4Before you begin
- Choose a valid standard or supplementary source asset; Annotation and Dimension assets cannot be cloned.
- For ACAD/BCAD target mode, check geometry is compatible with the source open/closed and dimensional form.
- Review the profile's ADACClone level-prefill threshold.
5Product differences
The task is shared where possible, but selection, interface integration and model operations follow the host shown below.
Supports point placement and target-geometry reshaping in AutoCAD, including 2D/3D polyline handling.
BCAD follows the same clone rules with Teigha entities.
ADACClone collects one native source through the pre-launch 12d output-window pick, then duplicates it at repeated Plan X/Y points while preserving every source vertex Z. It recalculates supported live geometry fields, excludes Annotation and Dimension and does not clone onto target geometry.
6Troubleshooting
The source says it is not cloneable
Select asset geometry carrying AssetID XData. Annotation and Dimension are deliberately excluded.
Some targets or placements were skipped
ACAD/BCAD: compare open/closed state, vertex requirements and planarity. DCAD: confirm the source is supported, use a Plan view, accept each X/Y point and select Finish. Use Generate when assigning a definition to unrelated existing geometry.
Level fields were not filled
Check field names are managed surface/invert level keys, nearby source assets have usable values and the Asset Library clone threshold is large enough for the real separation.
